Convention Center’s Update to QC for Extension of 1/2 Cent Library Tax
August 19th, 2015 by Joe BurgessSupporters of the proposed Convention Center, expected to e built on HWY 425 on UAM property, made therir proposal the the Quorum Court Monday night, announcing their intent to pursue a “rollover” of the 1/2 cnt libbrary tax, when that tax expires, probably in April or May.
The new tax will end when the pyment for the convention center and/or DMH surgry center expansion are paid in full.
The estimated payoff dates range from 20 years to 40 years.
The $11 million figure will provide “phase 2” of the project, which will be similiar to the Hot Springs Convention Center, that many local residents are familiar with.. It is currently expected to include the “arena,” meeting rooms, locker rooms for teams, and kitchen/concession stands. The pool areas would be added in following phases,

I can understand funding for the library, but for expansion of the hospital who charges enough to build 3 hospitals and a convention center that will more than likely stay as empty as the business complex built does, enough is enough
