Saturday – Rumors, Rosponse, Reaction – Friday Update

July 24th, 2015 by

Rumors response reaction As whatever is going to happen, Saturday draws near,  local residents are agreeing that it doesn’t belong in Drew County, and not taking sides about who is right.

In an earlier “summary” of a potential out-of-town group meeting, MLive did not use their accepted name or initials.  Again, this report will not do so, in order to “Google proof” the article.

As we stated before, a well-known national organization, with many individual chapters and branches, has scheduled a “rally” in the Florence Road area, Saturday night.

County, city, state, and other law enforcement agencies are aware of this planned activity, and will have extra patrol on duty.

Although very little information has been made public about the scheduled event, it is expected to be held in a specifically designated area, by a “small group” of people, on private property. Rumors of a separate group coming to our area are unconfirmed, and have only been mentioned on Facebook.

Law-enforcement agencies request local residents take no action in response to this event, but just be aware that it is taking place, with their knowledge and awareness.

These rumors have been the topic of many conversations this week, and will hopefully be forgotten, Sunday morning.

But for now concerns continue; as shown by the meeting Sheriff Gober had with concerned Wilmar residents, Thursday night; and the special prayer meeting of the Drew County Ministerial Allliance., being held at the same time.

Many local pastors have discussed the situation and agree, “The best response to this situation is no reaction, at this time.”

Many times, I have described Monticello as being “halfway between Mayberry and Memphis.”

It seems that Saturday evening, Drew County will be the intersection of differing opinions and beliefs, some represented by out-of-town folks.

Sheriff Mark Gober also requests local residents refrain from “sightseeing” in the area.

Sheriff Gober wants to assure Drew County residents that they will be safe and protected.

Many readers have requested that MLive “just ignore” this potential situation; but as Monticello’s Daily News, that is not an option.

We may have many different opinions and ideas, but the Monticello/Drew county community has dealt with each situation well, without much outside influence.

Let’s keep it that way.

  1. a little worried....... says:

This is a bit concerning being as how I am a Monticello resident. I am very unsure of what this article means but I am very worried now. Can you be any more clear on what’s being planned????

  2. Dana Lawhon says:

Those of you who don’t live in Drew county or are from out of state you should stay home. If you want to start a race riot start it in your own back yard put your own property and lives at stake.

  3. jerry webb says:

    great article

  4. former resident says:

Was a permit granted for this rally? If so, who approved it?

NOTE: The group has the legal right to meet, as they have described the meeting. It’s the law. The community doesn’t have to approve.

  5. Concerned says:

Are you serious? So you are saying you do not want out of town opinions to rally against the organization yet instill your welcoming out of town guest to come and participate in the function. This is double standard. Either you allow everyone to come in and participate and rally or not allow anyone in or out of the city. What good for one is good for the other.

  6. Kerry rice says:

I don’t think they should do that bc it might lead into some bad trouble some people think different

  7. Grace says:

This article probably should not have been published. I’m all for sharing news and what’s happening. However, this story is very obscure and uninformative and is just going to inflame people’s curiosity and stir up trouble. Just my humble opinion.

  8. Sue Harper says:

I am glad that Monticello Live did not ignore this story and did the best it could to inform without sensationalizing. The local media is showing amazing restraint and hopefully we can all do the same. The oldest U.S. domestic terrorist group is coming into our community and to have not alerted us to that might have caused even greater issues.

  9. Shelia says:

I think doing nothing is the best thing here….. it’s like a bucket of poop… the more you stir it the more it stinks….so let’s not stir it….let them come and try to start an up roar…. let’s not get drawn into it…. they don’t live here and they won’t move here… so let’s keep it on the down low…. for now…..just keep your guard up and stay close to your own homes…. “do not live in fear” says the Lord….

  10. Disappointed says:

Oh just great. Now the Arkansas Times picked up your article but added contact information to the organization. I guess the whole state will come now. Or, they will have a field day talking about racism in our town which we don’t have. I am disappointed it had to be on Monticello Live and now the Arkansas Times. Didn’t they say it’s best to ignore? Why can’t you take advice and ignore things instead of stirring them up. There is still time for this thing to blow up and get bigger. Some things are better left unsaid. But, now we have statewide attention on this.

  11. former resident says:

The citizens have every right to know what is happening in their community so they can protect their families and property.

  12. derek says:

If it’s on Florence road it will probably be on someone’s private land and no one will even know they are there. Stop worrying folks. It not like they gonna be up at ththe court house rallying.

  13. Wilmar Lady says:

Mrs Dana Lawhorn i understand what yoy’re saying but it’s “A” local that is allowing them to enter our county by allowing this group to rally on his/her property. I/we just have to pray. I totally understand that this rally does NOT repersent the entire city of Monticello nor Drew County.

  14. County Resident says:

    To Concerned –

I don’t think anyone is laying out the welcome mat for these out-of-town “guests”, so there is no double-standard. We (the county) just can’t, by law, refuse them their right to assemble. I believe the best thing to do is just ignore them – be aware and prayerful, but don’t give them the attention they are seeking.

I think my only question at this point is – whose private property are they gathering on??

  15. Concerned says:

I think the best thing for those of us that are not for this rally is to PRAY and ask God to continue to watch over each of us.. My concern is what if the black community take all their funds out of Monticello to other surrounding cities?? I’m just going to say God help us all. When election time comes will see….

  16. meaghan says:

I am glad that it had not been printed as other groups will come here and cause even more problems than the BBQ and beer drinking that will occur in that area.

  17. Former Resident says:

Why not call it what it is? The masses are starting to realize what it is. Call it what it is and remind opposers that if issues should arise, enforcement has warned to “ignore it” or if you don’t they won’t be on your side. I was born and raised in Monticello, and I have enough sense to mind my own business and leave a “small group rally on private property” alone. Anyone with common sense knows what’s happening. Acknowledge the history in demographics in our region and acknowledge that this rally gonna be allowed to happen in our lovely little town no questions asked and that if you don’t like it, avoid that road on Saturday.

  18. me says:

u are soooo right Sue Harper!!!!!

  19. Stacey says:

What I don’t understand is why the organization name was not mentioned? Any other organization would have been mentioned. But I think many know who they are? I just don’t understand why people can’t just let things go! These groups just keep stirring the pot! One more thing to say… If you stand for something why you don’t want to be known who you are? Just saying! I pray for peace in Jesus’ name.

  20. True says:

Small town people crack me up. I have an idea, if you don’t want to be involved; don’t join them. It’s on private property, so just stay away from it.

  21. peaceful goer says:

Please calm down what happens on florance road will stay there were not here to cause harm to anyone we will not start an uproar we just plan to discuss certain issues we have no reason to cause harm to anyone we are not even allowing wepons inside our meeting all the fear is useless

  22. Did I miss something? says:

I’m sorry I didn’t know we went back to 1915.

  23. curious says:

I would like to see the citizens of Drew County hold a unity rally, to peacefully demonstrate to ALL our citizens that we stand together, and that we do not welcome groups who may wish to intimidate or make to feel uncomfortable certain members of our community.

I am concerned that by ignoring the situation our silence may be sending the wrong message to EVERYONE. Our silence may be interpreted as consent.

I do understand and agree that probably the safest thing to do Saturday night is to stay home. I understand that rationale.

But it bothers me greatly that an activity is taking place in our community that may intimidate and worry members of our community, while we, the community as a whole, say nothing.

  24. Peter says:

You people are pathetic, where’s all this ‘panic’ when the ‘other’ groups are rallying… discrimination and hate are the same for everyone.

  25. opinion says:

I don’t understand why people are having such a fuss over it. They are not going to go around killing people. Movies have ruined peoples mind on the whole organization. If you look on their website, they mean no harm. Why cant we just leave it like it is and let it be? The Black Panthers can have their own organization, so what’s the difference. All they are doing is getting together and having a meeting. Lord help the world for there is so much hate against everyone.

  26. opinion says:

It isn’t this organization Monticello should worry about, it’s all the riots and hate from other cities that could put everyone in danger.

  27. concerned monticellonian says:

Born and raised in monticello, I’ve felt safe my entire life living here, until now. Our town may be small, but it’s a great place to stay. Some may have small mind mentalities when it comes to certain things. But maybe that’s what’s been keeping down the hatred. We have respected one another regardless of race, religion, etc. We have been a town with great morals and beliefs. We have alot of amazing people living in monticello. Whose hearts are filled with so much love and kindness. We still hold the door open for one another regardless of race, we speak with genuineness regardless of race. Our kids go to school together and get along regardless of race. And their genuine as towards one another is awesome. It hurts my heart to see the change our town has taken in the last 2 weeks. And whose to say what’s to come. To have someone invite this group who doesn’t care anything about MONTICELLO and how strong we as a whole have been standing without the hate ,Is Horrible. Have we really come to this point? Is our town running just that smooth to where someone wants to depart hatred in the hearts of great people. I’ve Never Had To Worry about my child’s safety until now. WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THOS

  28. concerned monticellonian says:

We all have a reason to be concerned. If it’s not about starting trouble. Then the younger generation needs to be educated on the non- hate. Instead of riding around town and going into certain neighborhoods and sitting outside Walmart making racial comments. I don’t care what group it is. If it were the black panthers or whoever else. Our town has been fine without either group
And I would say the same if it was a different group. So as a citizen of Monticello. We have a right to be concerned. Some that’s going may not be as mature as the one posting about its peaceful. If it is please explain to them this is not a race war!!! Because their actions around town is showing that, that’s where it’s leading to to

  29. Stacey says:

One more thing to say… And I have the right. I know the history of these organizations ! The movies had nothing to with it! I have the right to be concerned. Hate is not the answer! Love will defeat hate!

  30. former resident says:

If you are having a meeting to discuss issues, why the robes and cross burning. Robes and cross burning have nothing to do with discussing issues , No one invited the “Black Panther” to Monticello. Only when you planned you meeting is when other organizations mentioned coming in. Your organization only represent hatred. Shame on you for having so much hate for the community live in and the people that you are around every day.

  31. Tired says:

I think something no one is realizing is that this group does not pick a place to meet without someone of particular influence being stationed in that place. They picked Monticello for a reason. And I noticed someone said something about making Monticello look like they have racism which they dont? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee thats a LIE. I am white and I know the racism that is there because I date black people and have been a subject of it. There is racism everywhere some people are just now choosing to show it. Some of them that may be coming from out of town may want to have a PEACEFUL rally but all of them WILL NOT! I am glad that the town and neighboring towns were informed because it can get VERY out of hand if there are RADICALS involved…I just hope everyone is safe…

  32. Disgusted Resident says:

If this was no big deal, why all of the secrecy? It’s just wrong that the uninvolved residents on Florence Road were never even given a heads up about this rally. It is quite irresponsible of our elected officials and will not be forgotten come election time! This organization that you dare not mention, has a history of hate filled tirades and instilling fear and intimidation wherever they go. Not to even mention, lynching and other cruel and inhumane treatment. Most people with marginal education and sense know, history is the BEST indicator of future behavior! Are people supposed to just ignore that and act as if it never occurred and believe this group is any better? Heck, although you don’t share their name in your article, they proudly wear it. Instead of sticking our heads in the sand and acting as if this is morally okay, we should say ‘Hell No’ not in our town! If it was just an innocent meeting, why not say open to all folk? I’ll tell you why, it is NOT an innocent meeting amongst civil folk! Face the truth people, these people represent hate and intolerance and they come to recruit other like minded idiots to join in their klan. The city of Monticello will pay dearly for this! People will discourage their children from attending our fine local university because of the reputation that Monticello will now have, folks will want to avoid shopping as much in Monticello because now they know it is full of racist klan members, and other local businesses will also feel the sting. How is that for your apathetic, good old Monticellonians? I have a business that will suffer because of these inbred, back wood jerks bringing this nonsense to our town because they are too dumb to get an education and learn how to get along with all people. I am in business to make money, I don’t care what color a person is or if they are gay or heterosexual when they spend money at it because the money I want is green!!! Get a grip Monticello and shut these idiots down! God loves us all so stop trying to act like you’re Christian with that much hate in your heart. He didn’t send YOU to save the world, he sent his son JESUS already!

  33. Stacey says:

    Yes shame on them!

  34. Catherine says:

A local business has been mentioned on social media as being affiliated with this rally.

This was done by a disgruntled former associate.

This local business has nothing to do with the organization or the event schedule for this weekend.

    Please disregard these lies.

  35. Why is law enforcement and the church leaders so scared to let interested folks know the truth about this group and let people decide for themselves what to believe. The media is so liberal and negative about groups like this. In the south I though we believed in marriage between man and woman, not Adam and Steve. What are you people going to do and say when same sex married partners change our American flag to neon colors. Who are we going to blame on the next shooting when the Confederate Battle Flag is taken down and southern Civil War bust and monuments are gone. How much more do the liberals expect us to take and give up?

This is just another tactic from the Drew County Sheriff and the local ministers to keep the truth known from the public about the groups events. Their ideas are to stay away and ignore them, when is everyone going to start making up their own minds and stop paying attention to all the negativity the community leaders are wanting to stir up

  36. myopinion says:

My opinion, if you protest or draw attention, you are giving this “hate” group exactly what they want! Ignore the fools! If you stage a big production and draw attention to the community and gain any media coverage, you are getting them the attention they want. Let them gather and be ignorant on their private property! I would not give them the satisfaction of any retaliation in any way! Just my opinion!

  37. okay? says:

I believe that officials ignoring it will come across as sanctioning it. I think especially now that news sites are picking it up that a statement should be made by public officials.

  38. River Ratt says:

I just want to say this, it is on my heart and I say it out of compassion:
I am a past resident of southeast Arkansas.
My skin, my thin skin is whiter than snow or paper towel.
Once you get past my skin color I am just like everyone else on this earth, made just like everyone else.

I pray for the day that our skin, does not cause division or suspicion between all of us.
Hopefully what I am saying next comes across as I intend it to, I am so sorry that this group, which is undeniably linked to racisim, fear, terror, and incredible harm to the “black” community. I cannot imagine being a black parent and having to explain this group and what they mean to my children.

I pray that they come and go and I pray that those of who are white go out of our way to shine the light of love and brotherhood on our black brothers and sisters, like we know Jesus wants us to. He is our example of love and kindness.

We owe it to ourselves and our future generations to continue improving life for everyone else here in out town.

    Peace.

  39. Unconcerned Monticello Citizen says:

It’s understandable that citizens of Monticello and Drew county are concerned, but despite the know history of this group I’m not concerned one bit by them being here. They are having a peaceful rally on private property that just by chance isn’t even in the city limits. If they want to burn crosses or wear robes then let them as it’s not personally affecting anybody.

Everybody has their own beliefs. I’m not saying I support them, as I don’t, but by saying they shouldn’t have a gathering, isn’t that like telling the citizens of Monticello and Drew County they should go to church every Sunday? Let them have their meetings and come Sunday it’ll be like it never happened. We’ll go on in life like we normally do and Saturday will just be like any other day.

  40. justme says:

As I read about this it really saddens me. I moved back here because I felt it was and has been a great place to live. This event really raised a number of questions about a place that I cherish. I read a statement about there is no racism here. Unfortunately it exist every where. Not a good look Monticello. IMO.

  41. Wow says:

What gets me is that people like to compare the black panthers. No comparison. They formed to defend themselves and others in their communities. The other group formed to cause harm..smh..No one can hide from God,so whatever is in your heart whether shown outwardly or not is already seen by the great Judge. He will have the last say and do the separating. Don’t be deceived, we’ll reap what we sow.

  42. Mad citizen says:

Stop beating around the bush. This town and the city counsel, the police, the mayor…. really? Ur going to let this happen? Someone is going to end up killed.

  43. RE: Mad Citizen says:

You can name off every elected official, every police, sheriff’s deputy, sheriff, county judge and mayor. They have no choice but to let it happen. But they don’t have to let anything get out of hand in the county or city.

  44. Stacey says:

I pray for peace. Yes it is true we should just ignore these foolish people! Love will defeat hate!!!!!

  45. CURIOUS says:

Everyone is calling the city offices to try to get this stopped but if they want to hold this meeting they have the RIGHT

  46. Calm down says:

Regardless of if you agree with it or not they have a constitutional right to assemble and the freedom of speech as well if you don’t like it don’t go don’t be involved in anyway all of this stirring the pot is pointless

  47. No longer living in Monticell says:

I am just shaking my head! I grow up in Monticello and these meetings were going on back in the 70’s and 80’s. As a teenager in those days you knew what roads to not go down. I’d just stay away as I did in my teen years. It doesn’t involve me so why stick my nose in it. But I just did, because I am just amazed that not one has mentioned that this has gone on for many many years. It’s the days of the internet, the only reason you know now.

  48. BirdLady says:

Thanks for the story. I like knowing what is going on in my city. I don’t like it but like to know. Who told someone to come here?? No outsider could ever fine Monticello !!!! Any way….

  49. nancy says:

You people need to get a life. These so called groups have been around and in Monticello meeting for years and most people never knew about it. All of a sudden, because somehow this meeting did get out , ya’ll are all having a fit. I sure it’s because of all the news stories about the flag that is partly to blame for stiring people up, but Just My Humble Opinion, but instead of worrying about a MEETING, people need to worry about our enviroment and the world today and what its turning into. Get some Morals, Respect, and Honor back into our society!!! Then you can worry about a darn meeting. MAKE PEOPLE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS AND STOP BLAMING A FLAG, GUNS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE ON WHAT A SINGLE PERSON OR GROUP OF PEOPLE DO.

  50. True says:

Unconcerned Monticello Citizen… Thank you! I do not agree with it either, but then again what they do is none of my business AS LONG AS IT DOESN’T affect me. Fortunately, this rally has nothing to do with me. They gather all the time and you never even know it. Just as other organizations gather all the time and you don’t know it. They posted the article to inform you of your ignorance. Obviously word had gotten out. They shouldn’t have said anything. Nobody would’ve ever known. All of you that are constantly wanting to shout, “First amendment,” don’t like it when it’s something you disagree with. We need to take America back, and stop with the foolishness and ignorance. The color of your skin doesn’t matter, but your attitude does. Instead of sitting around outside of Walgreens and other places gossiping, grow up and realize that life isn’t about you.

  51. Sue Harper says:

They have a legal right to assemble. They are a domestic terrorist group. It’s in poor taste in light of recent domestic terror events, the most recent of which killed an Arkansas native Marine veteran, but it is legal. All we can do is steer clear, and don’t engage or respond. I think the low density media engagement was the attempt to give situational awareness. Keeping recognized brands out of print to avoid Google is also a good call. I am impressed that most of the community and even on this board have mostly avoided naming this terrorist group or any others.

  52. swampman says:

TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL THINE HEART AND HE WILL DIRECT THY PATH! WHY CAN’T WE AS A COMMUNITY TAKE THE LORD AT HIS WORD. GREAT PEACE TO THEM THAT LOVE THY LAW AND
(NOTHING SHALL OFFEND THEM) HOLD THY PEACE AND LET THE LORD FIGHT YOUR BATTLE!!! Where your Faith????

    God bless you’ll

  53. jerry webb says:

Let’s get a few things straight. This rally is not in Monticello. It is in a neighboring community. I do not believe that many people in Monticello would support or even participate in any of these acitvities. I am a bit surprised that anyone does. Joe not only has the right to write about this event, he has an obligation to inform the public, I am not pleased with the local paper for ignoring it. They also have an obligation. We need to shed as much light as possible on such groups and try to educate them into a nonexistent state.

  54. peaceful goer says:

Nobody was even supposed to know about this but it leaked onto social media and everyone went into a frenzy. We just have things to discuss if nobody bothers us it will be as tho we were never here I will say this again we wish no harm to the citizens of your beautiful town just leave us be please stop the up roar you’re scaring people for absolutely no reason

  55. derek says:

Well of they the governmental leaders of drew county would try n stop it with it being held on private property that would infringe on American freedom. Even tho their beliefs may not be right it a rally on private land and they rant forcing anyone to go or speaking ther beliefs on public or state property. So every body just calm down it’s not that big of a deal…

  56. Some things shouldn't be considered NEWS! says:

I think you posting this on here about the “so called” meeting and leaving out all details was just as bad as telling it. You say you didn’t want to post on the Facebook page but Arkansas Times has swooped I and shared this article causing a huge uproar in the south. Some things are better left kept unpublicized this event being one of those since it is pretty much a group of terrorist gathering for a lack of better way to classify the group..

This “rally” could cause more that just people in this town to riot there are a lot of people that this affects which could bring more unwanted groups of people in OUR town to put a stop to this!

the law enforcement needs to put a stop to this!

  57. I wish people would have more respect for the 9 black Christians that were killed in South Carolina
By harboring to all this racial issues is really sad
We all were getting along just fine ( blacks & whites ) til that low life psycho that happened to be white holding a Confederare flag in a picture killed those Christians
You all that have racial issues ( whether your white or black ) is giving Dylan Roof what he wanted
    A RACIAL WAR
Are we gonna let Dylan Roof succeed at what he wanted
Guess while he’s in prison .
He’s gonna have a big smile on his face
    Dont let that psycho win
And don’t let those 9 Christian people go down in history as being a part of something as ugly as a Hate and racial war

I THOUGHT AMERICAN PEOPLE WERE SMARTER THAN THAT
CAN’T YOU PEOPLE KNOW IT’S THE DEVIL AT WORK

  58. Angry citizen says:

I agree with mad citizen. There is going to be trouble.

  59. Edell says:

turn them loose and let the biguns eat the littleuns. roll on big mama

  60. Wilmar Lady says:

@Peaceful goer, I think you should had chosen a different name. The KKK rally that you’ll be participating in is anything but peaceful by definition. I’ll just put the entire armor of GOD on and pray for you and your fellow klans “idiots”.

  61. where were you says:

All of you that are busy bashing aren’t any better than the group you’re so afraid of. WhIle I don’t agree with the message and persona they represent they do have a right to assemble. If you take that right away just because you don’t agree then you’re no better than government who is taking away our Constitution now. As for our law enforcement they are protecting everyone as best they can. Had this not been publicized their lives would not be in danger by the actual outside radicals regardless of color. And shame on you people who concerned only with your money and greed. People have souls and the Word of God states clearly what about toleration of sin whether it’s greed, vanity, etc… And lastly you wanted a peaceful rally for the community to assemble in peace. We had one. On the square. A prayer vigil. It was beautiful and peaceful and yes we prayed Together. Where were you? If and when it is done again where will you be?

  62. Leland McGee says:

The sky is falling. The sky is falling. Get a grip people. Would YOU want someone trying to tell YOU what you can and cannot do on your own property. I think not. I don’t agree with what this “unnamed group” that no one wants to name with initials that no one wants to say stands for, but they have their beliefs and opinions just as I have mine.
I believe in GOD, the First and Second Amendments and minding my own business and hoping everyone else will do the same. I agree with Shelia and the bucket of poop.
As long as they are peaceful and are not causing trouble or disrupting the neighborhood let them have their meeting, beer and BBQ Saturday night. Come Sunday morning just maybe they will wake up with a handover and a bad case of indigestion. As for me I just hope to get a good nights sleep.

  63. True says:

AMEN NANCY! You hit the nail on the head!

  64. Ms. A says:

I have given this situation a great deal of thought, so I don’t make my statements lightly. A lot of citizens want to know why the local government and law enforcement don’t stop this. The fact of the matter is, they (this group) have a legal right to assemble; it is their constitutional right. Martin Luther King, Jr said “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” If we were to infringe upon their ‘right to assemble’ then what stops some of our rights from being infringed upon because someone doesn’t like what we say or do.
However, as Monticellonians and residents of Drew County we have the responsibility to ourselves and our community to choose how we react. Don’t give them the power of our anger or the satisfaction of dividing our community and in some cases our families; just ignore them. “Even a fool, when he holds is peace, is counted wise” –a Biblical Proverb. Our best reaction, is no action; don’t give them a platform for publicity. We have more pertinent concerns on the local, state, national and international stage, it is absolutely necessary that we stand united here at home. Don’t let a few of our own residents and out of towners disrupt and/or destroy our town either morally, emotionally or economically. We all have the right to express our views and beliefs without fear of prosecution, which is one of the best freedoms of this great country we call home. In fact, thousands of people risk life, limb and economy every year to enjoy these freedoms that some Americans take for granted.
We are all aware of the history of this group and our United States of America as a whole. Rick Warren’s quote sums it up as, “We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.” Years from now, when this is all over, when the younger generations of your family ask, how will you answer these questions, “How did you react?” “What did you do to ensure the fortitude of our community?”
Let’s stand together and get through this because whatever the repercussions of this event, it will be up to those of us who still choose to live and grow in this community to pick up the pieces and progress forward for the common good of all our citizens. “Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike.” –Theodore Roosevelt

“Before God, all men are equally wise and equally foolish”
    – Albert Einstein

  65. Pardon me?! says:

Of course nobody would have said anything if they hadn’t known about the meeting…because of the absence of information! if a hate group has the right to rally and recruit, which is what they are here to do let’s be real, then we should be able to reserve the right to voice our disgust and be in an uproar about it. “Nobody was supposed to know”? I’m sure they didn’t want anyone to know about the poison they (or shall I say you, as I’m sure you are lurking here as well!) are trying to spread! I hope they get grass and dirt stains all over their robes. I hope mosquitos are raging out there at this meeting. I hope they break out in sweats and can’t find the bathroom on time after the cook out!

  66. james c stewart says:

i agree l should know whats going on in there community, but does that mean i have to post on here when i have a b.b.q(which is a private matter) dont u ppl have more and better thing to talk about going on..to much time on ppls hands..just like a tornada tuching done in city limits, won`t be no bad stuff here..don`t read the hipe

  67. Little Red Hen says:

Not mentioning the “group” hasn’t prevented interested outside parties from finding Monticello Live. The above Willis Frazier is an imperial wizard from Colt, AR. He has a website.

I find it paradoxical that the site states they’re Christian, but they call their leader a wizard. Not exactly a proper term for a Christian.

  68. FNG says:

Good grief! All this speculation is unnecessary, folks! If you must know WHO is “sponsoring” this mess, just get the numeric portion of the rally address on Florence Road, then log onto ACTDataScout, and see for yourself who owns the property. It’s all public record, and no hood can hide it! The City of Monticello is caught in the crossfire and is no more able to prevent this than any of YOU can, especially since it’s happening OUTSIDE the city limits and on PRIVATE PROPERTY! The Drew County Sheriff’s Office can’t touch it either, unless something CRIMINAL occurs. I don’t like it any more than you do, but those are the facts of the matter. Also, you folks might want to be careful about trying to DICTATE to others what they can and can’t do on THEIR OWN LAND, as you might someday find YOURSELF on the other end of that equation. I don’t support ANY hate groups nor do I condone their past, current, or future illegal actions, but the fact is these folks are granted the same legal protections under the US Constitution as everyone else when it comes to the First Amendment, and I have to respect that fact even though I don’t agree with their hate-mongering. One last note to anyone considering trying to impede vehicular traffic (ala Ferguson, MO), be warned that US-425 in town already has a bad reputation for its high number of traffic accidents. Just saying… Peace out!

  69. Becky says:

I’ve been in the Monticello area a long time our world is more corrupt now than 30 years ago the church seats are empty compared to 30 years ago people have lost their morals respect and their dignity but I have one person to answer to that’s my opinion my mom and dad would be ashame that this is going on in their backyard I was raised not to be judgemental and some things you just don’t join in on glad my parents showed guidance and love and strength to me not place myself in harms way with this world’s ignorance I’ll stay home to myself cause I’m not wanting to visit any jail cell my bed is much more comfortable and my TV will let me know the news of the world

  70. Worried says:

I don’t believe this racial stuff will ever stop unless this country stops being DOUBLE STANDARD
In order for it to stop it’s gonna have to stop on all sides
    Not just Whites
It’s out there on every race
I think if any organizations that have to do about race need to be stopped
    That includes all rallys
Don’t show those movies that have racial slurs in them of any kind
And HISTORY BELONGS IN HISTORY BOOKS AND MUSEUMS
    History is what it is
    You can’t change history
AND YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE BIBLE JUST CAUSE YOU WANT TO
Man might can change laws to fit a person needs & wants
A person can have surgery to change their sex or whatever it may be
BUT YOU WILL ALWAYS BE WHAT GOD MADE YOU
    THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE
ANYBODY CAN PRETEND TO BE SOMETHING THEIR NOT
BUT IT WILL NEVER CHANGE WHAT YOU REALLY ARE
WE ARE WHO WE ARE!!ALWAYS WILL BE
SO WHY CAN’T WE ALL BE WHO GOD MADE US TO BE
THAT’S CARING , LOVING GOOD PEOPLE
NO MATTER WHAT RACE WE ARE OR SEX
    RICH,POOR ,
    WE ARE WHO WE ARE

  71. Gonna join in with em says:

You people are pathetic ! You are what’s wrong with this country . Setting on your backsides and letting our country fall to pieces because you are scared to say something that might offend someone . It’s shameful ! Those that are gathering discussing issues that we are facing have every rite to do so . That’s a freedom we have , but apparently you want to give that one up to .

  72. Lynn Phree says:

I don’t see a problem with any group wanting to gather together on their PRIVATE property. As long as no one is getting hurt, whats the problem? The media circus calls this a “situation”. IMO it isn’t a “situation” unless someone breaks the law, or gets hurt. These people should be left alone to their private bigot BBQ, even though we may not agree. MERICA!

  73. yelnats redworb says:

Used to live outside Monticello on Winchester Road; I haven’t heard this much excitement around Monticello/Drew County since my senior prom. Most of the ignorant comments that I have seen posted on this subject appear to be full of ‘thoughts’ and “feelings’, rather than FACTS. Way to go!

  74. Fed up says:

    to all the haters

    SHUT UP

  75. Star city resident says:

U folks need to chill! This ain’t the first and won’t b the last! There’s card Carying members of the klan everywhere! U will never know! Klasp

  76. White American sick of the BS says:

you can be sued for not baking a cake for a gay wedding. But the KKK HATE group can march down the street spreading hate.

  77. SMH says:

OK poke your heads in the sand. When customers are no longer frequenting your establishments no longer putting their hard earned money in your banks using your hospital sending their kids to your university then maybe you will rethink allowing them to “peacefully assemble”

  78. PEOPLE…PEOPLE…PEOPLE!!!! Don’t FALL FOR THIS…..these organizations have been playing this game called HATE a long time. We don’t have to play.. KKK Black PANTHERS NINJA TURTLES…. ALL FOR THE PEOPLE????. DON’T FALL FOR THIS. Hate is real alright , real DESTRUCTIVE… What we got is another opportunity to stand out just like we always have. Don’t ignore the thugs in our society just be cautious of your feelin’s and recognize that they want you to fall down on their level and HATE… REALLY HATE ..JUST FOR THE SAKE OF HATE…. Scary ain’t
it???? Don’t ever be intimidated by the thugs just put on your best attitude and HUG ‘M.. While your at it hug your children they need it …hug your neighbor.. hug your local thug real hard!! Who knows you might find out you HUGGI’N YO -SELF… DON’T FALL FOR IT!!! …GO MONTICELLO.—GROW MONTICELLO!!! ATSIT BYE…BYE

  79. concerned citizen says:

Just know that these people is our EVERYDAY PEOPLE we see, Doctors, store workers/owners, farmers, member of school board etc…. but they have NO POWER. Ignore ignorance and it will flee! #humanlivesmatter #hatredistaught
