After Collision Inspection of a Big-Rig – 5 pm Update

After a 15 minute break, the deputy coroner was called briefly, followed by an Arkansas Highway Police Corporal.
The officer had done the after-collision Inspection at the wrecker yard.
He specifically noted a tire with wires exposed and a brake line splitter that was worn.
He told the court that 3 of 4 trailer brakes were out of limits, and 6 of 10 brakes were out of calibration, total.
The last weight ticket showed the truck weighed 79,420.
73,280 is the Arkansas limit for asphalt on that size trailer.
There were also some owner and insurance questions about the tractor trailer.
The officer told the courtroom that if he’d inspected the rig in a roadside inspection, he would’ve placed the truck “out of service ” until it was repaired or towed.
At 3 pm, defense lawyer Lott Rolfe questioned the officer about the weight and owner’s responsibility for vehicle upkeep.
When questioned, he stated that the loading facility, as well as the driver, should’ve been aware of the weight regulations .
He added, “the owner is responsible for yearly inspections,” and “the driver is responsible for daily safety inspections.”
