Mom Arrested with 1/4 Pound of Weed and Child in Car Safety Seat

According the Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober, around 8:15 Monday evening. a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge Durango on W. Conrad Street. The Durango then failed to use their turn signal and almost caused an accident on HWY 425, while turning south.
As Lt. Tim Nichols was approaching the vehicle the driver, Misty Martin of Monticello, she rolled down her window, allowing the deputy to smell a strong marijuana odor from the vehicle.
Nichols advised Martin for the reason of the stop, and she explained that her minor child was trying to unbuckle the backseat.
Nichols then asked her if there was any marijuana or any other controlled substances in the vehicle. She responed that there wasn’t.
After asking her to step out of the vehicle, a corner of a clear plastic bag was seen sticking out of the front of her shorts. The quart size bag contained a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana. She was then instructed to empty her pockets, which produced a smaller bag of marijuana.
Martin was placed in restraints and her vehicle searched, revealing a set of digital scales, and more marijuana.
Martin was transported to the Drew County Detention Facility where she was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to use turn signal and improper lane change.
Circuit Judge Glover set her bond at $1,500.
The marijuana seized from Martin is approximately a quarter of a pound.
A family friend took care of the child.

Huge mistake for having the child in there with weed,but if it wasn’t for the child being in there who cares.i don’t smoke it,but we waste alot of tax payers money for nothing to lock these people up… It’s just weed
Let her go. It’s legal in some states & ignored in most others. Those states are making tax money off of it & giving folks selling it jobs thus more taxes.

One day we will live in a world where the general public is aware that weed isn’t harmful, isn’t a gateway drug, and the penalties of its use is nothing more than a stress on our society. Taking this mother away from her child would be much more harmful to the child than being raised by a mother on pot. If you disagree, do some research.
If people would read studies and learn facts they would realize weed is not safe. Pub med has many studies where it has been shown to slow reaction times and impair Cognitive and psychomotor effects. A lot of drunk driving accidents and deaths are results of impaired motor ability and delayed reaction times, which is also what marijuana has been shown to do. Some can argue that it is “natural” and God put it here. When was it deemed natural to inhale a substance that is modified through burning with the intent of getting a self indulgent high? God says your body is your temple and you should keep it holy…
Well, purposefully manipulating your senses into a state of mind that is unnatural and not the way God ever intended you to be is not falling in line with that train of thought. What about “obeying the laws of the land”? Thinking that way it would also be a sin for people to recreationally smoke it.
With all that being said, their are plenty of other substances that aren’t exactly christianlike neither…..but that’s not what this news story was about….
Unless she was under the influence at the time I don’t see what the fuss is about. We spend way too much money and effort on a witch hunt for what? A plant, which is more harmless than a bottle of Tylenol most women carry in their purse. The cost to average Joe taxpayer out weighs the minimal and I repeat minimal health problems and social costs of this harmless plant which was seen as a great medicine until the last 70 years of biased and money grubbing and yet I say failed prohibition.

Why are people standing up for drug use and not fighting against it? Marijuana yes is not the strongest or most harmful, but this stuff is being sold to our kids. Kids get on it then addicted. Next thing you know they are taking your money, taking someone else’s money spending 2-3 hundred dollars a week on it. This drug is not innocent and this woman is not innocent she knows what she does and who she sells to. The marijuana out now being sold is high quality and is also being laced with something. Now granted Kat Williams says who over doses on marijuana? That’s a good point, I know of no one but what dealers are lacing the marijuana with is killing people. This is not the same kind of Reggie the hippies and others from the past used. Why sale yourself and your family short by selling or using this stuff. Cause that’s what your doing is selling your family short.
I agree with you Alex! People will say anything to make themselves feel better about getting high. What a shame and a waste of a life.
The whole deal is it is against the law an she knew it or she wouldn’t have had it in her pants that’s the deal if u want to do it all of you move it would make Monticello a much nicer town where people would want to raise kids

I can’t believe people are actually defending this woman for having marijuana (which is illegal) and her child in the same vehical! Expressing that she was doing nothing wrong: she had enough to sell and a scale for that purpose with her child in the car!! It’s called drug-dealing. It’s a major problem in this area and one less on the street doing it is a victory for hard-working, sober-minded, level-headed people like myself!
I agree with u Alex I I mean what is this world coming to now days you have to watch who u talk to and hang out I don’t understand how someone would even let their kid around that stuff you know it’s going to get you in trouble why even do it and everything else that’s what’s wrong with kids now days their parents let
