Color Guard at Monticello Airport for Fallen Soldier

A military color guard paid tribute to a fallen soldier, Friday morning, at the Monticello airport.

Master Sergeant Gregory L. Childs, of Warren, died on May 4, 2012, in Kabul Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. According to initial reports, Master Sergeant Childs died from a non-combat related illness.

Master Sergeant Childs was assigned to the Defense Logistics Agency, Administrative Support Center, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. 

Congressman Mike Ross of Prescott commemted, “Our state and nation lost a true patriot in the passing of Master Sergeant Childs. His passing comes much too soon and he will be deeply missed. All Americans owe Master Sergeant Childs their eternal gratitude for his service to our nation.”   “My deepest thoughts and prayers are with his family during this extraordinarily difficult time.”

    first, I would like to thank Master Srgt. Childs for his many years of service to our country and being the man to his community and his family… Also, I must say that I have never had the experience to see how the military support the family of a lost soldier until now.. I commend the soldiers of the Untied States Army the supported, escorted and comforted my family… Thanks to you all but especially Officer Mitchell, you left me highly impressed…
