85 MPH Wreck-out Leads to Search for Suspect
July 11th, 2022 by Joe BurgessOn Wednesday evening, at approximately 5:21, a Hamburg Police officer observed a silver Ford Focus driving at a high rate of speed, just inside of the city limits.
Radar showed the Focus traveling at a speed of 85 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. By the time the officer pulled onto Mill Road, the car was leaving city limits.
With emergency lights on, he pursued the fleeing vehicle, who had no intention of stopping, into the county.
The officer then radioed the Ashley County Sheriffs Office notifying them that he was attempting to make a stop on the vehicle.
Shortly after the Focus crossed over Hank’s Creek on Ashley 17, it went around a curve, left the road on the right side, skidded through a ditch, and came to rest, just before hitting a power pole.
ACSO was notified of the situation and given the location. As the officer was approaching the vehicle he saw a male, later identify as Tymarvis Miller, age 18 of Monticello, exiting the driver side.
The driver said that he was OK, and then was patted down for any weapons and placed in cuffs. Another HPD officer and an ACSO deputy, arrived on the scene.
When asked about the passenger, Miller told officers that it was his cousin, Isaiah Burns, age 21 of Hamburg.
When the officer walked into the ditch to see if the passenger needed any medical attention, he saw the bushes just inside the wood line moving. When he looked in the car, no one was inside.
The officer moved to the woods and told the person to come out with their hands up. At this time, he observed the bushes deeper inside the woods move, and notified the other officers that one suspect was in custody, but another was fleeing on foot. Officers then set up a perimeter to search for the fleeing suspect.
Miller was asked about Burns, and told officers that he had a backpack with him and that he possibly had a gun.
The vehicle was searched and found numerous rounds of ammo (.45, 9mm, .223 and .556).
Officers also found a mason jar full of green leafy substance, consistent with marijuana.
Also officers also found a 3/4 empty 750 ml. bottle of Crown Royal whiskey in the vehicle.
Miller was transported to the Ashley CountyJail for booking.
The search for Burns continued into the evening.
Burns his probation officer was notified of the situation, and stated that Barnes is not to be around any guns or ammo.
If anyone has knowledge of the whereabouts of Isaiah Burns, please call HPD at 853-8600, or ACSO at 853-2040.
