8 am Update – Jordan’s Memorial Being Moved by Students, to Visitation Site, at School’s Direction
March 12th, 2021 by Joe BurgessWhen the body of a missing MHS Junior was discovered by law enforcement, Wednesday morning, the last thing anyone expected was a battle between students and Monticello School administration over a memorial in his parking space.
As described in the articles below, students set up a memorial Wednesday night, which was quickly removed by school staff. Meetings with students followed.
Thursday afternoon, without permission, students re-erected another memorial to their deceased classmate, Jordan Lee, in his parking spot.
For several hours, Thursday evening, students gathered, remembering Jordan, and trying to find some closure in his death.
As of 7:30, Friday morning, a slow, but steady stream of traffic still passes through the empty parking lot (virtual learning day), looking at the memorial, and remembering Jordan.
At 7:45, a group of volunteer students arrived, instructed by school administration, to remove the memorial. The volunteers will take the items to Jordan‘s visitation, this evening, then to the gravesite, tomorrow.

This kid was bullied at school. At Monticello High School. Every kid who goes to Monticello HS knows that bullying is not only tolerated but that it’s the “way things are.” New kids are never accepted; new families are never “from” here; Teachers who went to school with parents of their students treat those kids preferentially; racism is rampant. Now, a memorial for a kid who finally made a fatal decision as his only option to end his pain is being removed because it might be “triggering.” To whom? I’ll tell you: bullying is tolerated and has always been tolerated at Monticello High School because the Administration and many of the teachers at Monticello High School ARE the BULLIES. Let’s change their sports mascot to the BULLIES. The reason the admin is resisting a natural outpouring of sympathy from the ground up is because it knows IT is the problem. Why did this boy commit suicide? Because YOU are the bully. YOU Superintendent. YOU Principal. YOU Vice-Principal. You teachers. YOU counselors. YOU parents. NOT the kids you have TAUGHT to be bullies. NOT the kids YOU are raising. YOU. YOU turned those kids into THOSE KIDS. STOP being a BULLY and you’ll STOP raising bullies. It’s pretty simple. Look in the mirror.
What did it hurt to let those kids have a memorial to their friend and classmate, those kids have gone through hell the past 2 school years with covid and now to have this death of their beloved friend and classmate too , really M.S.D. you could have and should have done better what if that was the only way some of those kids had to deal with his death and help heal . What did it hurt to have that there for 1 Friday and through the weekend ,you could have ask iChat it be moved before school on Monday. Seems to me yall are a bunch of insensitive jerks and jes I am taking covid into consideration but I’m also taking a whole lot of kids who are already at the breaking point due to covid and the way its wrecked their world into consideration kids need a way to deal with things their way and in a world that has lost its marbles we need to let go of some stiff nosed rules if only for a few minutes to let others heal. Been there before as a sister ,mom , daughter , aunt and friend
It’s probably nothing personal between admin and the memorial. If they are following professional psychological advice, they probably also understand that the #1 cause of this type of tragedy is exposure to it according to research. They are looking to avoid another tragedy like this and it’s in the best interest of the students..Young teenage minds are not mature yet to fully grasp the impact of this.
