6 DC Students Attend FFA National Convention in Louisville, KY
November 20th, 2014 by Sarah SpencerSix Drew Central student FFA members who attended the FFA National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky from October 29 – November 1, addressed the Drew Central School Board at their meeting Thursday evening, November 13.
The students, Brittany Bawcom, Chapter President; Nicole Marlar, Chapter Vice-President; Charlie Lytle, Sentinal; Barrett Hunnicutt, Secretary; Nicole Knowles and Tristan Foreman, each spoke about their learning experiences at the Convention, and the impact it has had on them.
They participated in a career show and expo, and visited the Hall of States, which represents agriculture from each state. One member gave a weather forecast live on TV. They learned about and participated in a vet science skills project, a livestock project, and viewed over 300 exhibits. They participated in the general session and were inspired by the keynote speaker, Nick Vujicic who addressed issues such as bullying, suicide awareness, promoting agricultural efforts in Africa, and being the best they can be.
The students visited Louisville Slugger Field, and participated in the national days of service, where they worked to help restore parts of Louisville. They attended the Louisville Nature Center, worked with students from other states to restore and renovate parts of a 41 acre preserve that is used as an outdoor classroom, and attended a concert before returning home.
The trip to the convention was paid for primarily by the fundraising efforts of the students.
