4 Wrecks-1 Curve-1 Church- Multiple Vehicles Crash into Church. Could a “530 Cable” Save A Life?
October 5th, 2018 by iPhoneOak Grove Assembly of God church is located at the intersection of Oakland Street & Winchester Rd., (Highway 138).
Neighbors recall “over a dozen” vehicles running into the church in recent years.
Specifically, 4 vehicles have wrecked out there this year, 3 in September, and 2 in the same day (September 22).
Church members have been told if they were to construct a barrier on their property, they would be liable for potential lawsuits from future drivers who miss that curve (even though striking an angled barrier had less impact than crashing through a brick wall of a church building).
One suggestion has been to install the “speed – reducing cables” designed to reduce collision impact, similar to those on I-530, near Little Rock.
Public comment and concern brought about improved conditions, and reduced collisions at Dead Man’s Curve On 278 East, a few years ago.
MLive would like to suggest if you have a concern or comment about the Winchester Road/Oak Grove curve situation, contact the ARDOT district engineer’s office at 870-534-1612.

My ole church! Also, back in 1951 or 1952, when the Church was located farther out on the Winchester Road by a very sharp curve, someone ran off the road at the curve during Sunday morning services. Wow, guess that is still happening…must be a message…Some people are really trying to get into that Church.
