Interim Monticello Mayor David Anderson will remain Mayor  of Monticello through the endy of Zack Tucker’s term, in December 2018. Anderson defeated former Mayor Joe Rogers by a final count of 554 – 508, which is a 52% – 48% victory.

The 2 former mayors squared off against each other three weeks ago, along with independent candidate Ronny Carr.  That election was also one by Anderson.

As vote totals were arriving at the courthouse, at 7:30, Tuesday night, early/absent votes gave Anderson a dominant lead.

This was increased greatly when wards 2 and 4 came in, both won by Anderson.

Rogers quickly began catching when ward 1 arrived.

Ward 3 was soon added to the total,  giving the Rogers his closest margin of the night, although it was still 46 votes below Anderson’s total.

There was one point when counting was halted due to computer issues  with the obsolete voting machines, as ward 3 was being tabulated.   This was quickly resolved and all ballots were counted by 9 PM.

Although the election may not be certified until June 5, Mayor Anderson’s term will theoretically begin immediately, since there will be no “lame duck” period, before he takes office.
