3 Cars & Big Rig Collide on 278 E.
November 12th, 2014 by Joe BurgessTuesday afternoon, shortly before 1 o’clock, a 4 vehicle accident occurred on highway 278 East, approximately 5 miles out of Monticello.
Sources on the scene report that a westbound black Nissan Altima crossed the centerline, colliding with a eastbound white Mercedes-Benz sedan.
Following that collision, the Mercedes begin to spin in the roadway, striking the burgundy Toyota behind it. The Mercedes and the Toyota then left the roadway, coming to a stop in the south ditch.
The vehicle that was traveling behind the Ultima, was not involved and pulled off to the side of the roadway to offer assistance and call for authorities.
An unloaded 18 wheeler was also westbound, and was able to slow before approaching the cluster of wrecked vehicles, but did strike the Altima as it sat on the center line, reaching into both travel lanes.
Drew County Sheriffs deputies and an Arkansas State Trooper responded to work the scene, slowing traffic for around 45 minutes.
SEEMS and MASI transported three crash victims to Drew Memorial for treatment.
Drew County OEM also was on site, to deal with the fluids that had spilled onto the roadway.
