2nd ChanceFurDogs Saves 350+ dogs in 2015,
January 30th, 2016 by iPhoneMonticello 2ndChancefurdogs celebrates one year as an organization! As we approach our one year mark as an organization, it is imperative to note we would not be the organization we are today without our wonderful support from local citizens and beyond. Monticello 2nd Chance saved over 350 dogs in the year of 2015, pulling 80% of those dogs from our city shelter before they reached a time limit, and ultimately, euthanization.
We, as an organization, pride ourselves on being advocates for the dogs who would else slip through the cracks by providing a loving foster home, appropriate vetting, and socialization skills. We do not allow non-regulated, non-registered breeding within the realm of our organization and ensure spay/neuter of all animals before they are adopted. We are a completely donation based organization and without our loyal supporters we could not continue to give these dogs a 2nd chance at life, so, thank you, for all that you do to support our organization, your generosity means more than you’ll ever know.

This picture is of Sable, a sweet German Shepard mix diagnosed with Red Mange. Red Mange is a skin disease caused by a cigar shaped mite that is found on most healthy dogs. The mite infests hair follicles and glands of the skin. Red Mange is not contagious, yet puppies are infected the first 2 or 3 days after birth through close contact with an infected mother. A normal immune system keeps these mites in check. The mites typically affects puppies 3 to 12 months old. Treatment requires aggressive therapy weekly which includes dips prescribed by a vet, also some may require antibiotic therapy also prescribed by a vet. Dogs that have suffered these mites should not be bred.
