29 States Represented at Wilmar for Juneteenth

Wilmar’s Juneteenth Celebration is recognized nationwide as one of the largest celebrations that commemorate the abolition of slavery in 1865.
This year, at least 29 states were represented at Wilmar’s celebration, based on visits with guests and license plates seen over the weekend.
Wilmar has been celebrating June Dinner, since the late 1800’s Traditional Wilmar activities include a parade, a dance, a wide variety of food vendors, a motorcycle burnout, out visitors from all over the United States.
Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19, and is recognized as a holiday in 42 of the 50 United States, according to Wikipedia.

Thanks Monticello Live for your coverage. I grew up in Wilmar and love coming home for June Dinner is something I look forward to every year. There is so much love and community togetherness there. No matter how old I get, I will never forget my home. Also, there is so much history that goes with June Dinner. This is something I tell my children about, not only coming home to celebrate but what it means. Once again, special thanks for covering June Dinner.
