Update on Tax Bill Turmoil – “NOTICE TO TAXPAYERS”
March 6th, 2019 by iPhone
Recently, we ran this public notice from the tax collectors office. Here is what happened.
As the bills were being processed and printed by the printing company, there was an operator error that shifted the “mail to address“ to an adjacent page on every bill being mailed.
This mistake was not noticed until the bills were mailed, received, and calls started coming in to the tax collectors office at the courthouse.
Over 11,400 Drew County taxpayers received incorrect tax bills, due to this error, at the printing contractor’s facility.
In speaking with tax collector Tonya Loveless, she clearly stated that the mistake was not the fault of anyone in Drew County, and emphasized that the printing company will accept full financial responsibility for the re-printing, postage and any other costs involved with correcting the error.
Corrected bills are in the process of being mailed this week, and should be received soon.
