Sex Charge with a Child Gets 12 Year Prison Sentence for Local Man

A Drew County man accepted guilty pleas to 4 different charges, Monday morning, following February events in Tillar, relating to sex crimes involving a child.
Fernando Ortiz agreed to a 12 year total sentence in the Arkansas Dep. of Correction, including 4 six year sentences, with two sets of six years, running consecutively.
The charges of sexual solicitation of a minor and domestic battery will run at the same time. The charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threatening, will run together, after the first six year sentence is completed.
Ortiz will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Drew County Man Facing Multiple Charges, after Act with a Child, July 28, 2018
Tuesday, Drew County Deputies were dispatched to Tillar for a domestic dispute.
A lady told deputies that Fernando Ortiz had exposed himself to her 11-yearold daughter. She stated that she walked into the bedroom and saw Ortiz sitting on the bed with his pants down.
She stated that he had made the (clothed) child sit on his lap. When confronted, Ortiz jumped up and slapped her, got a gun from under the bed, and told her he would kill her and himself, if she told anyone what had happened.
Prior to DCSO’s arrival, Ortiz’s father took him to a house in Winchester. At first the father lied to officers, but later took them to his location.
Ortiz was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Drew county Jail. He is being held on a $50,000-dollar bond
He is facing likely charges of sexual indecency with a child, aggravated assault, domestic battery, and terrorists threatening.

I’m speechless. SIX years for a sex crime against a minor child? Are you freaking kidding me? I do not understand how this man was convicted of a x crime against an 11 year old child and other violent crimes and only got 12 years. It’s a shame he didn’t have a few pain pills or a gram of meth on him. Maybe he’d have been gone for 20. It’s s damn shame that the prisons are full of drug addicts who got caught and sentenced to 20+ years, but this pedophile barely gets a slap in the wrist! Make me sick.
