After being out of service for several months, following an accident, Monticello city trash truck, with the side lift, is back in service.

Friday morning, around 9:15, the train track sensors mistakenly picked up on a rock or other debris near theHighway 425 train crossing, setting off the flashing red lights.

This, in turn, caused the northbound highway traffic control lights to change to constant red, causing a major traffic jam, reaching a quarter-mile to the south.

MPD directed traffic, until city workers brought a four-way stop sign,

Arkansas Midland was notified, and fixed the railroad sensor.

Morgan Harrington, a fifth-year college rodeo competitor and biochemistry graduate student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has always been a fierce competitor. She has battled the stopwatch as a barrel racer and breakaway roper, winning first-place buckles and trophies by competing against other rodeo riders on the circuit. She is always pushing herself to be the best and her hard work paid off in an unexpected way when she was recently offered the chance to audition for a rodeo-themed movie to be filmed near Dallas. In 2022, she found herself competing against 22,000 young women, all auditioning for the same role in a barrel racing-rodeo movie. The resulting movie, “Heart of a Champion,” was released in February, with Morgan playing a supporting role. (more…)
