I would like to address a couple of reports given in our Tuesday, November 19, 2019 City Council meeting. Two different reports stated that an Event Center was being discussed. A local news forum reported “Event Center Discussed Twice In Council Meeting”. This headline led citizens and others to believe we are discussing this issue. An Event Center may be discussed in separate commission meetings but I would like to inform the citizens of Monticello that an Event Center is not on the table.

The Arkansas Department of Health “Rules Pertaining to Food Establishments,” effective September 7, 2019 indicates that any establishment serving food will be required to have “at least one supervisory employee who has Certified Food Manager training,” to ensure that someone with food safety knowledge is employed at every facility. Food establishments have already been made aware that they are required to receive said training by September 7, 2020.
Ashley County Cooperative Extension Service will make this training available to your Food Managers in Ashley County and surrounding areas. The two day training will yield 10 hours credit.
