Thursday was a wonderful day at Arkansas FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) State STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events!
Sydney Pennington and Bailey Tucker competed in Focus on Children and received a Gold. Kim Long competed in Life Event Planning and received a Silver. Delaney Davis received a Silver in Chapter Service Project.
We appreciate the support from our school, parents, and community.
During the investigation which led to the recent arrest of a Winchester mother of 4, Drew County authorities were informed by the 14 year old victim, not only did she smoke meth with her mother, but also her mother’s boyfriend, who also tried to sexually assault her.
The Civil War Sesquicentennial Marker-Dedication Ceremony for the sixteen companies raised in Drew County will be Saturday, Feb. 28th, at 2 o’clock, @ the Drew County Courthouse. These companies contained 2500 men and left 500 families without a bread winner according to a document written in 1941 by Mrs. J. D. McCloy, a Monticello resident who researched local court records.
The City will continue winter storm debris pickup through the end of next week; Friday, February 27.
In an effort to help residents cleanup after the winter weather storm, the city will collect larger down limbs and branches as part of the city yard waste collection program.
Residents are asked to place yard waste on the curb, and contact the Solid Waste Department, (870) 367-4407.

“The Woods of Monticello”, a residential nursing care facility, lost electric power, yesterday morning around 9:30, like thousands of other Drew county Entergy customers.
Like everyone else, they are “making do,” but for a facility with 84 residents/patients, it has become quite an experience.

Residents are asked to place yard waste on the curb, and contact the Solid Waste Department, (870) 367-4407.
Monday’s interrupted trash service will run on Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
