The tan Toyota Highlander was traveling south from the country club area, when it collided with a roadside traffic signal, and knocked down other road sign(s), when the crash occurred Monday morning April 15, around 2 AM.
The vehicle appeared to be totaled. When Monticello Police ran the tags, Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies contacted the owners, who were unaware their vehicle had been stolen from their home on Old HWY 13.
When they checked nearby vehicles, other weapons had been stolen, as well. Specifically, 3 handguns were taken.
According to Sheriff Mark Gober, witnesses at the scene gave a vague description of the driver, who quickly fled the scene on foot.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the DCSO at 367-6211.
The occupant(s) of this Toyota Highlander fled the scene, from North Hyatt St. (the section formally known as 35 across from the post office) after colliding with a hospital sign and directional stoplight, while traveling east.
