State Crime Lab – “11 Gunshot Wounds” – State Rests at 4 pm
June 28th, 2016 by iPhoneDr. Kokes, a 23 year expert from the state crime lab, performed the autopsy on Eric Thompson.
Thompson died from a total of 11 gunshot wounds. They included multiple shots to his stomach, trunk, and legs, as well as to his back, back shoulder, and buttocks. Some shots appear to have been fired while Thompson was on the ground.
Many bullets left exit and re-entry wounds. Kokes believes, “none of these wounds were immediately fatal,” meaning he died from internal blood loss.”
During cross-examination, Kokes agreed that they were likely 4 feet apart, at the time shots were fired. There were no contact marks or stippling present.
He was dismissed at 3:45.
A firearm and toolmark expert, with 13 years experience, from the crime lab was called briefly.
Court will resume tomorrow morning.
