The body of a 16-year-old high school student, who was last seen around 1:30, Thursday morning, was recovered, Thursday afternoon, around 5:15, at Gee’s Landing, on Saline River in Drew County.

The deceased, Benjamin Washam, of the Johnsville community, in Ashley County, was a student at Hamburg High School.

According to Sheriff Mark Gober, his body was found in 5-6 feet of water, by a swimmer in the area, who notified authorities.

The body has been sent to the state crime lab for autopsy.   The case is still under investigation.

“We want to extend our prayers and sympathy to the family and friends of this young man. Anytime there is a death, it is tragic, especially when the deceased is so young.” – Sheriff Mark Gober.
